Description
Bundles of plaited straw lengths, all lengths appear to be varnished. Straw plait for hats is made by hand. A cottage industry in Essex. Women were paid by the 'score' (yards ), buying the straw in six inch long bundles and splitting it. This information was written in the 1920's on a tag which was attached to the straw when donated.
