Description
A wooden pounder found in the Hauraki Plains - no specific site/location recorded. Used in preparation of fern root for food and flax for fibre ( Davidson 1987 ). Shaped handle and body, damaged on one side of pounding body - pieces of wood flaked away. Evidence of white clay - maybe in situ deposit still evident. Surface cracking and disintegration has occurred all over the artifact, especially on the main body and handle end due to uncontrolled drying out after removal from waterlogged deposit
