Description
A basalt (porous grey stone) pounder/grinder with distinctive carved end of handle. Found at bottom of sloping section of land at the end of Hampton Terrace Road, Tauranga ( overlooking Hairini Bridge ), verbal report by donor of shell (unidentified) found in same soil context. Worn in places - especially on right and left hand of carving motif. Base has a triangular area of charcoal like deposit on pounder base. The handle shaft if a darkened colour.
