Description
A mother of pearl fan frame engraved with a gold and silver. On the fan paper there is a painting of a lady and man in 17th century costume in a garden. This is hand painted on paper and stitched onto light fabric with miniature sequins. Highly ornate.

A French fan given to Lady Ashburton by her husband and brought to New Zealand from England. It was given to the donor by Violet Webb her father's cousin. She had been a lady's maid to Lady Ashburton. The donor recalled that she used it for a fancy dress dance and accidently stood on it and was very upset about this as she loved this fan.
