Description
A type 2B ( see Duff 1956 and Davidson 1987) toki made of polished greywacke. Quadrangular shaped and ungripped. Chipped and mottled edges. Extensive damage to the blade with large, round stone chip removed ). The reverse side has a label "Tauranga U14/2240" attached on clear tape. This refers to a site excavated in May1985 by Bruce McFadgen (see site report on file), in Judea, Tauranga. Please also see NZAA Site record for further details. Internal Affairs Register number Z3931. The adze was excavated from a site (100m long and 25m wide) with three shallow depressions - filled in or collasped rua's and a shell scattering over the North West of the site. McFadgen comments that "it appears to me to be a damaged pa". Site co-ordinates: Easting 27 869 00, Northing 63 843 00.
