Description
A New Zealand War Medal. One surface of the medal reads "NEW ZEALAND VIRTUTIS HONOR" with the dates "1863 to 1864" centred inside a wreath. The other side has a side-view bust of Queen Victoria in relief, encircled by the Latin words VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F:D: The medal has a loop attached at the top through which the ribbon passes. At the end of the ribbon a clasp is attached for securing the medal/ribbon to other surfaces, ie a jacket. Stamped around the thin edge of the medal is the following: J.NOLAN, O.S., H.M.S. MIRANDA.

Medal awarded to James Nolan who served on the HMS Miranda. The medal was awarded only to naval personnel who had to have survived action on land.
