Description
A 'Futura' radio receiver with wooden case.

This radio was manufactured in the1930s by the highly innovative Waihi firm AKRAD. The Akrad Radio Corporation was established by Keith Wrigley in the 1930s. It was to become one of the largest electronics businesses in New Zealand. Intially producing radio sets it also manufactured household appliances and a very popular line of tricycles 'The Akrad Flyer'. Keith Wrigley died suddenly in 1946 aged 33. By the 1960s the Waihi factories employed nearly 400.
