Description
Eight assorted sea shell fragments found at Ōtūmoetai Pā, Tauranga.
0121/99/1 - Haliotis iris - common paua - bleached shell fragment, some iridescence inside, exterior almost completely covered in barnacles.
0121/99/2 - Haliotis iris - common paua - Bleached fragment, markedly iridescent interior; loss of calcareous outer layer reveals iridescent layer.
0121/99/3 - Haliotis (species not determined) - Outer surface showing crazing, having lost most of calcareous layer. Internal surface is iridescent.
0121/99/4 - Perna canaliculus - (Gmelin). No description given.
0121/99/5 - May be Linixus Ischeanus. Bleached, incomplete specimen with a dull internal surface.
0121/99/6 - Penion sulcatus - A bleached and broken specimen with tip missing and small hole on upper body.
0121/99/7 - Struthiolaria papulosa - complete. Traces only of colour, especially around the aperture.
0121/99/8 - Cookia sulcata - Badly broken shell remnant with outer calcareous layer almost fully missing, revealing iridescent layer.
