Description
An oil painting on canvas by Charles Blomfield, titled 'Mount Maunganui', circa 1890. The scene is of the foreshore of the Tauranga township looking towards Mauao. The Town Wharf is visible as is the Monmouth Redoubt distinguishable by the flagpole. In the foreground two small boats (possibly for fishing) rest on the sand and several people appear to be enjoying a day out. The painting is in a oak frame with a dark stain.

It is likely that Blomfield painted this during one of his expeditions around the country. Tauranga was a point of connection for the central plateau and Auckland. This painting was purchased at auction through Peter Webb Gallery by the Tauranga Charitable Trust and donated to the Tauranga Museum. The painting was put up for auction by the Blomfield family.
