Description
A Union Jack or Union Flag. The flag is made up of three componets, the red St. George's Cross, the white diagonal St. Andrew's Cross and the red diagonal St. Patrick's Cross.

The following provenance was given by Vi Simons the grand-daughter of George Crabbe:

"Well my grand-father George Crabbe came out here in 1864 and joined the first Waikato Militia. The soldiers camped at Te Papa. Crabbe was present at the time of the Battle of Gate Pa but did not take any part in the Battle of Gate Pa. This was because the Militia were in Brown Street (named after Archdeacon Brown) but they were ready to come up to Gate Pa had they been wanted. This Union Jack was used at the Battle of Gate Pa so it would be well over 100 years old and very fragile. The Battle at Gate Pa was on the 29 April 1864. My father was born in a military camp and being a soldier's son the Union Jack was given to him. The flag has been in our family for many years. My grand-father died in 1905 and the Union Jack was placed on his casket."
