Description
A poupou made of totara. Original paint which is white and black in a kowhaiwhai pattern on the top half with a lower red base area. This piece has the whole right side missing and the upper left side of the piece also. Missing sections of the timber have split off. A small insert of timber has been added to the piece on the left side edge.
An original piece from Te Hei meeting house at Manoeka Pa, near Te Puke. The tribe is Waitaha. Carvers of the house were Taiko and Tu Te Rangiwhakaea. Erected by Tarahina in 1899. Returned to Tauranga by Te Papa in 1991.
