Description
A mounted print of Constable Bartholomew Moroney. Handwriting on the back of the photograph reads "Mrs M. Stewart, No. 7, McArthur Ave, St Helliers Bay, Auckland". Letter accompanying photograph reads "Police Headquarters, Johnston Street, Wellington, 25 May 1960, Mrs E. M. Stewart, Dear Madam, In reply to your letter of the 12th May 1960 asking for information concerning the Police record of your father, the late Constable Bartholomew Moroney, I have to advise that as the result of a search of records the following particulars have been taken from an old Register Book held at this office: Bartholomew MORONEY, Born in Ireland, Height 5ft. 10 3/4 ins, Fresh Complexion, Sandy hair, Blue Eyes, Married, Roman Catholic, Farmer by Occupation. He also served in the Victoria (Australia) Police Force and NZ Armed Constabulary prior to being apppointed to the NZ Police Force. Constable Moroney Died at Maketu, Tauranga District on the 16 December 1888. As all the early records have now been destroyed I am unable to state where your father joined the Police".
