Description
An unmounted postcard print showing a view of Mount Drury from the quarry on Moturiki. Tram track from quarry to buildings at the foot of Mount Drury and sandy beach between. Several people walking on beach. Pencilled on reverse "Mt Drury from the Quarry on blowhole 1921. Mt News issue Feb 3rd 1954. Mr. A B Cottrell 82 Ocean View Rd".
The railway from the quarry on Moturiki moved rock to a crushing plant on the beach near Hopukiore from where it was used for ballast on the railway line from Mount Maunganui to Matatā by 1923, part of the East Coast Main Trunk Railway. This line was intended to go as far as Gisborne but ends at Tāneatua.
