Description
An unmounted postcard print showing women playing croquet on a green at foot of Mauao. Appears to be on the ocean side of the tennis courts. On reverse "Mt Maunganui Croquet Club".
In February 1925 a meeting was held at Mount Maunganui to discuss the formation of a croquet club. A woman’s committee was formed to look at raising funds and the following month, with the funds secured, construction of a lawn commenced at the base of Mauao. The club was run by women and as the Bay of Plenty Times reported was ‘very popular with the ladies of the Mount’.
