Description
An unmounted postcard print of a woman standing in front of machinery. Handwritten on reverese "Davey Paxman, Steam Engine, Omanawa Powerhouse, Automatic trip valve 55 J.H.P. In early days". However David Hyde, electricity expert had the following to say about this photo in February 2018: "I am doubtful that it is taken in the Omanawa Falls hydro station. When I briefly visited the station about 1975 I recall that there was a model A or Model T petrol engine there to drive the generator. As the station is underground, the generator presumably supplied power in start-up conditions, and may have given excitation current to the main generator. When I look at the photo you sent the engine appears out of proportion to the size of the generator depicted. Also where does the chute pictured go to there was no second story. The walls and surroundings pictured do not seem to match the stations interior."
