Description
An unmounted print showing a view of a timber two storey building with entrance porch and steps from the street. A group of people are standing in front of the building. Women in long dresses and hats and men in suits and hats. Handwritten in pencil on reverse "First Tauranga Post Office about 1900. Burnt down about 1902. The second largest wooden building in the southern hemisphere - Parliament Buildings Wellington being the largest".

Thomas Edward Price was born in South Wales circa 1838 and appears to have commenced work as a photographer in New Zealand in the 1860s. Working in both the North and South Islands, Price opened a studio in Tauranga in 1897. He died in Tauranga in February 1928 and The Bay of Plenty Times published a long obituary acknowledging his contribution to the town.
