Description
Unmounted print showing the Tauranga Post Office and Government Building, Willow Street. Masonry construction and Marseilles tile roof with clock tower. Designed by J. Campbell government architect. White picket fence on boundary. Ancillary sheds behind building. Hitching rail for horses on grass verge and three children. Includes buildings on same side further down Willow Street. House on corner Harington Street and Town Hall. Handwritten on reverse "Tauranga Post Office replacing the wooden building burnt down about 1902 which was said to be the second largest wooden building in the southern hemisphere".

Thomas Edward Price was born in South Wales circa 1838 and appears to have commenced work as a photographer in New Zealand in the 1860s. Working in both the North and South Islands, Price opened a studio in Tauranga in 1897. He died in Tauranga in February 1928 and The Bay of Plenty Times published a long obituary acknowledging his contribution to the town.
