Description
An unmounted print showing a yacht on lawn in foreground of weatherboard building with shingle roof. A man standing on the boat holding boom. On reverse "Mr Haggerty building the Elsie Victoria 1901 opp Guinness Bros at foot of [Monmouth] Redoubt". Mr Haggerty built bathing platform in 1885 on foreshore of The Strand, Tauranga.
Thomas Edward Price was born in South Wales circa 1838 and appears to have commenced work as a photographer in New Zealand in the 1860s. Working in both the North and South Islands, Price opened a studio in Tauranga in 1897. He died in Tauranga in February 1928 and The Bay of Plenty Times published a long obituary acknowledging his contribution to the town.
