Description
An unmounted print showing a view of the Tauranga Hotel following a fire. Brick chimneys and two brick walls standing but otherwise rubble. Burnt telegraph pole has ladder standing against it. Several men looking on. Hand written on reverse "Tauranga Hotel Feb 1936". Headlines in 'The Bay of Plenty Times', 17 February 1936, "Destructive Fire On Strand. Tauranga Hotel and Five Shops Reduced to Ruins Within an Hour. Old Two-Storied Block Burns Fiercely. Brigades Hopeless Task. Desperate Fight Saves Adjoining Shops. Loss Estimated at 12,000 pounds".
