A black and white unmounted print showing the Tauranga Hotel on fire in The Strand. The fire is well under way. Smoke billowing up. Severl men crossing street. Headlines in 'The Bay of Plenty Times', 17 February 1936, "Destructive Fire On Strand. Tauranga Hotel and Five Shops Reduced to Ruins Within an Hour. Old Two-Storied Block Burns Fiercely. Brigades Hopeless Task. Desperate Fight Saves Adjoining Shops. Loss Estimated at 12,000 pounds".
