Description
A cape made from black brocade that is fully lined and edged with wide lace. The front opening has hook and eyes. The sleeves are set in at the side seams. The centre front forms a deep v. There is a border of wide lace and jet beads around the sleeve and hem edges. The neck is round with lace and beads. The centre back waist is pulled in with tapes with lace and bead decoration.

It is believed that this cape was worn by a member of the Gilmore family. The Gilmores were the proprietors of a store on the corner of Cameron Road and Elizabeth Street and were very well known in the community.
