Description
An unmounted print showing a man in a hat sitting in a small wooden cart with iron wheels drawn by a horse. Trees and house in background. Handwritten on reverse "Old Winbush, town character in the early 1920s."

Joseph Stephen Winbush arrived in Wellington, 1 March 1879, as a cabin passenger on the 'Lorraine'.(Evening Post 10/1/1879 p.2) Arrived Tauranga on 'Hawea' (BOPTimes 8/3/1879) Farmed at Rangiuru Maketu. In 1893 owned lots 25,26,39, 40 Topcroft in Sec. 2.(BOPT3/5/1893) Sold a 100 acre farm in Cambridge Rd he had with H. Sheath near cheese factory in 1900 (BOPT16/7/1900). With Sheath sold their farm at Te Puna (BOPT 21//1/1901). Bought lots 806 & 807 4th Ave (BOPT 10/2/1904). Sold property between 4th & 5th Aves (BOPT4/10/1907). Wrote Tauranga Borough Council re footpath in 3rd Ave (BOPT3/6/1908). Died 1923 age 70, buried Tauranga cemetery.
