Description
An unmounted postcard format print. View from Otumoetai over maize paddock and orchards on lower level showing harbour with tide out and Matakana Island, harbour entrance and Mauao. House roof on right down hill. On reverse "Otumoetai near cnr Hinewa and Otumoetai roads c1940s House originally belonged to Mr Ogle Cherrywood central. Donor Mrs S C D Tunks".
"The house and property in the picture belonged to my grandfather John Wilding Ogle. He brought his family to Tauranga in 1935 from Hawera where he had been a banker. He built the house in the photo and established the citrus orchard seen beyond the maize running down to Ngatai Road. Sadly he died in 1940 at the age of 33 from tuberculous meningitis".
