Description
A large format print recording the visit of Premier R.J. Seddon to Tauranga 22 November 1899. Group of people standing at front of a substantial house. Group includes Canon Jordan (second from left on path); Premier R.J. Seddon in centre on steps; Colonel G.A. Ward in uniform seated on step. He was Mayor at the time. Also present are Mr T.E. Price first on left, Mrs Howell next to Canon Jordan. Mr Howell standing with Mrs Jordon; Mr George Asher standing behind Seddon's right shoulder. Mr Herries MP is in the back row second from right, Mrs J.F. Spooner is to his right; Mr Spooner may be bearded man on her right. Verandah of house has canvas awnings tied up under verandah roof. Image is damaged with tears and folds, some paper on reverse part of repairs.

Thomas Edward Price was born in South Wales circa 1838 and appears to have commenced work as a photographer in New Zealand in the 1860s. Working in both the North and South Islands, Price opened a studio in Tauranga in 1897. He died in Tauranga in February 1928 and The Bay of Plenty Times published a long obituary acknowledging his contribution to the town.
