Description
A letter written by Horatio Gordon Robley to John Cuthert Adams dated 10 July. Writing on both sides.

10 July
415 Strand
Dear Miss Adams & Rangatira Arama _
Just recd the beautiful NZ mountain drawn on Splendid Rug. I just rushed to yr photo of 1928 and saluted it – Fancy, remembering me like you do – The Maori never did but I gave rum to wounded, etc; They were brave, and so honourable. Mair did write me in his last letter, the Maori did (?) – I have well preserved the art of ancestors in drawings, and in Books.
I am told a visit from Mr. D. Bates, who is vice President Veterans Association of Wn – a friend of Sir Douglas Maclean – who often spoke of me to him ditto. I will write again next mail. This one is to be posted tonight – First view of the Rug & portrait of the Mount, (I once scraped by) pleased. The portrait made me feel young again, as you can imagine me with gaze on it – But you have given me also of value & quality – H. Fildes of 118 Upland Rd – Kelburn WLN has now my manuscript of service – perhaps may print
