Paris 24 Sept 1917

Dear Jessie

It seems such a long time since I wrote to you that I don’t know where however I will begin with asking you how you and all in your home are keeping. I hope they are all keeping in good health also Herbert have you received a letter from him lately if you write to him soon give him my new address will you , dear friend, I have not heard form him for long time but since his last letter I am gone away from Armentieres. I am to Paris now with all my family, three weeks ago oh dear friend I am very sorry for my old place but no more civilian stop there now we had to leave Armentieres because the Germans were shelling it so much the night after we left there were nine hundred people gased and I my self got a little of it also my father, but we hope to go back to our home again when the ____ back. We left our ________ at 7 o’clock in the morning and a shell wrecked it at eleven so that you can tell how lucky we were to get away.
Well Dear Jessie I am here now. I get some work but Paris not same for me. I hope Herbert come to Paris some day for see him as I seem every day. I some New Zealand soldiers in Paris, I have not heard from you since I leave Armentieres and I am feeling very anxious. I have no more news for this time. I must close now with the best respect and love from your old friend.
