Complexity in building a canoe, traditional rites are still maintained.

Carved wooden bow piece which comes from a fishing waka. The bow piece of a waka typically took the form of a stylised face with a protruding tongue, described as tētē or pakoko. Carved head with large tougue protruding. Red ochre stain. Drilled lashing hole through neck and three drilled lashing holes on proper left side.
