Description
A colour slide showing McLean’s Trading Post on Cameron Road, Tauranga. The store was owned by Donald Armstrong Akuira McLean (b.1921-d.1973). The image is of a street scene with vehicles driving past the Trading Post. The horse and cart signage on the roof of the building is believed to have been drawn by Michael Hodgkins who was a local identity. The store was later known as Abels. Recorded by the photographer as ‘McLeans, Cameron Rd, now Abels'.

The Tauranga Heritage Collection has more than 2000 photographic slides taken by Robert Gale. Robert and his family moved to Tauranga in the early 1960s and he taught at Merivale School until retirement. Robert was a member of the Tauranga Photographic Society for many years.
