Description
A colour slide showing the demolition of a building. Signage on front of building reads ‘Bank of New South Wales, Peterkins Land Agency, Real Estate’. Recorded by photographer as ‘demolition “Peterkins” Wharf Street’. This building was located on Wharf Street between The Strand and Willow Street. "Ian Peterkin was a little sad when we found him sitting on a pile of rubble, a couple of Saturdays ago - it was all that remained of one of Tauranga's oldest buildings, which he had used for the last five years as a land agency and auction rooms. The building, in Wharf Street, was built for the Bank of New Zealand in 1875 and opened as their first branch in the Bay of Plenty." 21 September 1968, Bay of Plenty Photo News
