Description
A colour slide showing Queen Elizabeth and Mayor David Sceptre Mitchell walking down a path that is lined by girls in Grecian style costume throwing rose petals. Recorded by the photographer as ‘Queen and Mayor’. It is likely that this photograph was taken at Memorial Park, Tauranga, where the Queen addressed a crowd of approximately 15,000.

The Tauranga Heritage Collection has more than 2000 photographic slides taken by Robert Gale. Robert and his family moved to Tauranga in the early 1960s and he taught at Merivale School until retirement. Robert was a member of the Tauranga Photographic Society for many years.
