Description
A colour slide showing an aerial view of a large building surrounded by fields. Water in the distance. Recorded by the photographer as ‘Tauranga aerodrome – new runway construction.’ "Sealing operations are nearing completion on the new runway at Tauranga airport and it is hoped that the field will be open for resumed NAC service next month. Turbo-jet "Friendships" will probably be operating fast flights to major cities by August but we may still have to wait a year or two for the proper administrative buildings and passenger terminal." The Tauranga Heritage Collection has more than 2000 photographic slides taken by Robert Gale. Robert and his family moved to Tauranga in the early 1960s and he taught at Merivale School until retirement. Robert was a member of the Tauranga Photographic Society for many years.
