Description
A colour slide showing a dredge in the Tauranga harbour. The Mount Wharf is visible in the background. Recorded by the photographer as ‘Tauranga Harbour. Dredge’. "With the tonnage of cargo passing through the Port of Tauranga showing an increase of almost 50 per cent for the six months ending March, compared with the same period last year, things are really beginning to hum along the waterfront and recent activities have aroused more than casual interest. The dredge, operated by an Australian company, has already become a familiar figure on the nautical landscape. Busily engaged in deepening and straightening the cutter channel, the dredge will eventually make it possible for vessels of greater length and draught to enter the harbour, avoiding tortuous bends which have to be negotiated at present." 4 May 1968, Bay of Plenty Photo News
