Description
A colour slide showing view looking across a field towards a river and two bridges.Recorded by the photographer as 'Two bridges, Wairoa Road'. "For many years, motorists on the Tauranga-Katikati highway have been plagued by the long, single lane bridge across the Wairoa River at Bethlehem. When the elderly structure started to sink some years ago, a new bridge became urgent and this has recently been opened for traffic. Although no records can be claimed for speed of construction (we pictured early work on its approaches three years ago in our May issue for 1965), there is no doubt that this fine new structure and consequent realignment of the highway will do much to speed the traffic flow." 6 April 1968, Bay of Plenty Photo News
