Description
A colour slide showing a building built into the bank of a river. Three women are standing at the end of a road looking across to the power station.The location is identified as the McLaren Falls area, Lower Kaimais. Recorded by the photographer as 'McLarens Power House. Missing bridge, McLarens. After cyclone Dinah'. "Dinah Visits the Bay - During the early hours of February 2nd, the tail-end of Cyclone Dinah swept across the Bay of Plenty causing considerable loss of farm stock and damage to small boats, bridges, roads and main services. During the 24 hours, 8.73 inches of rain were recorded at Omanawa, near Tauranga. Most serious damage occurred at McLaren Falls Power Station which supplies electricity to Tauranga City Council." Robert and his family moved to Tauranga in the early 1960s and he taught at Merivale School until retirement. Robert was a member of the Tauranga Photographic Society for many years.
