Description
A colour slide showing an aerial view of the Matahina dam and township between hills. Recorded by the photographer as 'Matahina dam.' "The Ministry of Works Matahina Power Project on the Rangitaiki River, 6 miles upstream from Te Teko. The dam, which should be adding its power of 70,000KW to the national grid by 1967, will have a maximum height of 260 feet to contain a 200 feet head of water. Its crest length of 1300 feet will contain 51/2 million cubic yards of material and being an earth dam will have a core of weathered greywacke obtained from the local ranges". Robert and his family moved to Tauranga in the early 1960s and he taught at Merivale School until retirement. Robert was a member of the Tauranga Photographic Society for many years.
