Description
An unmounted sepia print showing five women and one man all wearing black watching Queen Victoria’s funeral proceedings January 1901 from Fort (Monckton?) there appears to be water in the background so they may be watching the Royal Navy ship taking her coffin on HMY Alberta from the Isle of Wight to the mainland. There is a Union Jack flag at half-mast. On reverse in pencil ‘Queens funeral Group at Fort Monkton’. Fort Monkton lies at the western approaches to Portsmouth Harbour.
