Description
A commercial building located on the The Strand and Hamilton Street corner.
Had been the site of 3 “Tauranga” hotels. After 1936 fire the third hotel was built in the art deco style. At the time this photograph was taken the bar was called the “Grumpy Mole”. Building since demolished (2013) and rebuilt and occupied by “Lone Star” (extant 2021).

One of seventy photographs of buildings within the Te Papa Peninsula taken by Lyn Harpham in 1995 and 1999. Lyn Harpham was a historian and recipient of the Tauranga Heritage Award. Accompanying the images are handwritten notes made by Lyn and a brochure printed as a guide to a bus tour of the homes conducted by Lyn on 4 December 1995.
