Description
A colour postcard showing a view along The Strand towards Devonport Road. The railway and Town Wharf are visible as is the Tauranga Yacht Club in the distance with the Matapihi Rail Bridge behind. Printing on reverse reads 'Tauranga NZ Boat Harbour, The Strand. This peaceful attactive spot now a delight to residents and visitors alike has seen troubled times; in 1864 the Battle of Gate Pa was fought here. Tauranga means "anchorage for canoes" or a "landing place".
