Description
A colourised photographic print of a body of water with hills in the background. Printed on the image at the bottom left is '11576 In South Fjord Lake Te Anau'. This image has a misty appearance, not uncommon on these South Island lakes. Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the South Island and second largest in New Zealand and located in the south west of the South Island.

This image was taken for the production of postcards by the Detroit Publishing Company. The photochrom process allowed black and white negatives to be realistically colourised through the lithography printing process. The image was transferred to stones, one for each colour up to eleven. They produced a great variety of postcards with sales of seven million one year. The colourising process was renamed photostint and the company closed in 1932.
